Meadowridge | Residential architectural project

This residential renovation project is situated in the leafy suburb of Meadowridge, Cape Town. The scope of work involves a comprehensive internal transformation of the existing house, including the complete gutting of the interior and the removal and replacement of the existing roof structure.

One of the most significant architectural interventions is the relocation of the kitchen and primary living spaces to the garden- and pool-facing side of the house. By repositioning these everyday living areas, the design prioritises natural light, spatial flow, and a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor living.

The new layout allows the kitchen and lounge to open directly onto the garden and pool terrace, creating a seamless relationship between the interior and exterior spaces. This approach transforms the outdoor areas into an active extension of the home, encouraging a lifestyle that integrates daily living with the surrounding landscape.

While the internal spaces adopt a more contemporary architectural language, the design carefully retains key elements of the existing character. The front façade preserves its cottage-like scale and charm, maintaining the familiar streetscape presence of the home while allowing the interior to evolve into a more modern and open living environment.

The project ultimately balances contemporary spatial planning with the retention of the house’s original character, creating a home that feels both renewed and contextually grounded within the established neighbourhood.
