Noordhoek | Residential architectural project

This residential project in Noordhoek explores a contemporary interpretation of the traditional farm-style double pitched roof. The brief involved the demolition and reconstruction of two dwellings — a primary residence and a secondary cottage — together with a series of ancillary spaces.

The design approach sought to reinterpret the familiar farm-style vernacular in a more contemporary architectural language while maintaining the character and sense of place associated with the surrounding Noordhoek landscape. Generous internal volumes, large glazing openings and expansive covered patios create fluid connections between the interior living spaces and the surrounding natural environment.

The architecture balances simplicity and refinement through a restrained material palette of white plastered walls, natural stone elements, and large glazed openings. These materials respond to the coastal context of Noordhoek while establishing a calm and timeless architectural expression.

A sculptural stone chimney acts as a vertical anchor within the composition, providing texture and material contrast against the otherwise minimal architectural language. Solar panels are integrated into the roofscape, supporting a more sustainable approach to living while preserving the clarity of the architectural form.

The project reflects a careful balance between contemporary residential design and the relaxed coastal character of Noordhoek, resulting in a home that feels both modern and deeply connected to its natural setting.
